3 prints one light
, one medium
and one dark

First Installment
Cutting
Cut Two strips WOF (Width of Fabric) 3 7/8" (three and seven eighths inches) wide from the Dark fabric
Cut One strip WOF 4 1/4" (four and one quarter inches) wide from the Light fabric
Cut One strip WOF 4 1/4" (four and one quarter inches) wide from the Medium fabric
Piecing
Step 1) From the Dark 3 7/8" strips sub cut into 14 squares 3 7/8" and 4
squares 3 1/2"
Put the 3 1/2 squares aside, (may be easier to make these with a pin and paper what they
are so you remember later)
Step 2) Take the 3 7/8" squares and place the ruler on the diagonal of the square and cut it into two right sided triangles. Repeat until you have 28 triangles. Put aside.
Step 3) Take the 4 1/4 strips (one light and one medium) and place them RST (right sides together) and cut into 8 squares of 4 1/4"
Take one set of the light and medium fabric and Make 2 diagonal lines on the wrong side of the light fabric dissecting the square into 4 triangles. Do this on all of the 8 sets of squares . This next step is important to get right
Step 4) Mark a 1/4 inch seam on the left hand side of the
lines on four of the sets and sew along these lines then cut along the diagonal lines
you should
have 16 units like this
____ cutting line ------ sewing line
Mark a 1/4 inch seam on the right hand side of the lines on
the other four sets and sew along these lines then cut along the diagonal lines
you should
have 16 units looking like this
____ cutting line ------ sewing line
Open the units out and iron the seam to the darker side. Put 2 of each unit aside so that you have 14 of each for the next step.
Step 5) Sew the 3 7/8" triangles from Step 2 to the above units to make a square. To keep the units square line up the point (the right angle corner) at the bottom of the triangles and the two short sides. Don't line up the sewing edges, sew 1/4 inch in being careful not to stretch the sewing line as it is on the bias, and this can put your square out if you stretch it. Iron the seams to the darker size. (beware the dark side Luke.......lol oops wrong place for that :)
You should end up with
14 B1 units and
14 B2 units
