I started quilting when I was pregnant with my daughter, Brittany…and she’s 22 years old now! Yikes – does time fly by quickly! I also have a son, Nicholas 18.  I did a lot of smocking when the kids were little, I love to draw, paint & knit but always come back to quilting.

I started with appliqué by machine for both kids nurseries & moved onto pieced work. I love handwork – needle turn appliqué, redwork, embroidery & even enjoy the peace of hand sewing the binding! I have several projects going at once but am usually pretty good about finishing them – or recycling them into something other than the “original” thought! I am not a whimsical person – I typically am steered towards elegant & classic type things. I have made a vow to “come out of my box” this year, so am trying many other styles of quilting, as well as using colors I have not been fond of through the years.

I am terrible about following patterns and usually design my own…or just change it along the way. I have a manuscript in to Martingale Publishing for my first quilting book. I haven’t heard back an acceptance to date, but am thinking no news is good news. The book is motivational (similar to Chicken Soup for the Soul) and has 12 quilt patterns.  The name  proposed is: “Life is a Quilt - Quilting for the Mind, Body & Soul”.

I am the Historian  and PR & Marketing Director for my local Quilt Guild – Washington Stars Quilt Guild.

I am 43 years old & have been married for almost 24 years – to a wonderful man (Jack) that has been my best friend since we were in college. He supports my “habit” without grimace – as he is an avid wood worker and has his own “habit”.

Brittany is currently working for 8 attorneys – she was in the top 15 for the Miss Washington pageant last year& has done quite a bit of modeling for bridal shops. She lives about 10 minutes away & comes by to have lunch with me nearly every day.

Nicholas graduates high school this year & he works for a Solid Surface company, Corian counter tops. He was certified by Dupont last summer & has been installing counter tops since he was 14.  He & his girlfriend have a house here in Olympia.

We live in Olympia, Washington and have been here for 8 years now. We have the best of both worlds – the rain & snow as well as the sun & beaches. We moved up here from Carmel, California & prior to that near Houston, Texas.
