I have the words "I will do it" tattooed on my forehead. I volunteer at my children's school. I coach my 13 year old's slowpitch softball team and her fastpitch team. All our kids are active in one sport or another. The 3 youngest are all soccer stars. The 21 year old is attending our local community college.
I have always been a craft-a-holic. Any craft would do as long as I kept my hands busy. Eight years ago when my Mother retired and her and my Dad were moving out of their condo, she gave me a box of muslin squares that belonged to my grandmother. They were embroidered with what I now know as "Redwork." My Mom said do something with these. I had never quilted anything in my life, however, I did enjoy sewing clothes for my family immensely. What do you do with 12" squares of fabric? Quilt them of course. I tried to put them together with no instructions and got frustrated. I went out and bought a self help quilting book and finished the quilt and I have been hooked ever since. All other crafts have been forgotten. This quilt is certainly a keeper as some of the blocks were originally dated "1900" and one says "Finish 1912".
I love every aspect of quilting from designing, shopping for fabrics and even sewing them up. Previously I have always hand pieced my projects and then hand quilted them. I am finding out that this is taking a huge amount of time. I have to learned to become friends with my sewing machine so I can produce more beautiful quilts. I will continue to hand quilt the tops as often as I can because I think that is a wonderful end to a great project. But for more immediate gratification. I will machine quilt it. I am a new owner of a short arm quilting machine and hope to make a home based quilting business.
I have "met" a bunch of wonderful new friends through my love of quilting, and with the help of Cyberspace. QuiltFriends has become my passion. It's a wonderful group of quilters who are always around to help each other.
Thank you for visiting our website and I hope you will come back soon as we continue to update it often.
